I have a few servers running (2 right now to be exact) so I can get away with 2000 slots on TeamSpeak legally (3000 when I get my 3rd server setup). Therefore, I am, depending on circumstances, giving away some slots, and bandwith, and server computer resources, and my time to keep them up and running, in the form of Free TeamSpeak 2 Servers.

http://teamspeak.shanesblog.net/

As I said above, there is limited space, and people I know have priority, but there is lots of room left over. Follow the link above and plea your case for a Free TeamSpeak 2 Server.

This game went live on the Chinese servers last year, and will be released on US servers last quarter of this year. If you’re familiar with MMO’s, than you’re probably familiar with World of Warcraft (WOW), the largest MMO currently. While Aion will probably not surpass WoW in size (number of player), for anyone who has been playing World of Warcraft, some since 2004, for this long, are ready for something different. Aion is different from most MMO’s in the fact that it focuses on flying as a main aspect of the game, for travel, combat, and profession.

I recommend anyone looking to play a new MMO, or thinking about starting back with an old MMO, to try Aion this fall on the US Retail. I will probably give the game a test drive when it comes out. I update the post when the game is released to publicize my server.

**Current US Game Server: (game not released, check back then)

While the install may be different for other operating systems, such as Linux, or OSX, the basic process may still be the same; however, these instructions are on a windows install Detailed installation and setup can be obtained from the manufactures websites.

1)	Download an up-to-date server from the manufacture’s website.
Ventrilo: http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
TeamSpeak: http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads

2)	Install the server.
Ventrilo: Docs http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php#Server_Installing
TeamSpeak: Faqs http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=faq

3)	Configure the Server (optional and recommended).
Ventrilo: Go to Start, VentSrv, Edit INI File. The only variables to edit are the first few:

[Server]
Name=Server 1 ((change to your server name))
Phonetic=Server 1 ((change to your server phonetic name))
Auth=0 ((0 does not require password, 1 requires password below))
Duplicates=1 ((no change, 0 to disallow duplicates))
AdminPassword= ((type your password here for server admin access))
Password= ((type your password here if Auth=1 to log on to server))

TeamSpeak: Right click the TeamSpeak Server icon in your system tray and go to Admin. This launches a web browser where you can log in with the information provided to you during set-up. Here you need to edit a few things: Click Servers from the left then click select on the current server. Now click Server Settings from the left menu. This is where you can set various details about the server. If you are behind a router, make note of the port number.

4)	If you are not connected to the internet through a router, go to Step 6!!!
Determine your internal IP, go to your network connections (XP: right click network places on desktop and go to properties. Vista: click network icon in system tray, go to network and sharing and click network connections.) Right click on your current active connection and go to Status. Click on the Details tab and take note of your IPv4 Address.

Determine your external IP, go here: http://www.whatismyip.com/

5)	Next, you need to make the following modifications to your router setup:
a) Open a web browser, and go to 192.168.1.1. This should bring up your router page and, the default username/password should be admin/admin (if it does not work for you, please Google your model of router and find out what the default router IP, username and password is, if the defaults do not work, you must get a hold of the person who changed them =).

b) Go to your Application and Gaming or Port Forwarding page. Enter in the port and Internal IP address here:

Note: If you are setting up Ventrilo, the default ports is 3487, and if you are setting up TeamSpeak, enter in the port number from the configuration I told you to take note of earlier.

6)	Connect to the server. Enter your External IP address. Make sure you have the correct port number as well.
Ventrilo: the port line is separate from server in this client, enter in the correct port number.

TeamSpeak: enter the server and port together as follows: 127.0.0.1:8767 (if your external IP was 127.0.0.1 and your port was 8767).

7)	If any firewall warnings have popped up for incoming and outgoing connections for these server applications, they all need to be allowed. If you are having connection issues that you think are related to your firewall, please disable your firewall and continue diagnostics.

Congratulations, you now have your own working Ventrilo or TeamSpeak server set up for free. If you are having issues connecting after following all these instructions, please refer to this thread on my forum http://forum.shanesblog.net/viewforum.php?f=12

Green Day new album, in stores last month. All these applications are 100% free, and supported with updates unless otherwise noted. Additionally, most of these applications are available for all mobile/smart phones; however, some of these applications are BlackBerry specific. BlackBerry specific applications will have a BlackBerry logo next to the SmartPhone application name. Also, all links are coded below software description.

BuzzMe

BuzzMe allows your phone to vibrate and ring at the same time and every BlackBerry owner should download this if they plan on using the vibrate feature. This program only has two settings, vibration on or off. When on, it vibrates simultaneously when your phone is set to Tone, when off, phone resumes as normal.

bigtincan.com/misc/BuzzMe47.jad from your BlackBerry phone

Instango

Instango is an Instant Messaging client for Yahoo, MSN, AIM, ICQ, Jabber, QQ and Google Talk services for your mobile phone. I have seen many instant messaging clients for mobile phones, but this one has it all, for FREE. If you plan on doing any instant messaging from your phone, Instango is the only way to go.

get.instango.com from your SmartPhone

instango.com Instango Website

Pandora

Pandora is 100% controllable/customizable radio that allows you to create and edit up to 99 stations by adding and removing music from the stations and skipping past music you don’t want to hear. If you have never experienced Pandora on your computer before, this is a must have for any music lover!

pandora.com from your SmartPhone

LogicMail is a POP3/IMAP mail client for your mobile phone. Before LogicMail, I only used my phone’s default mail client; however, the blackberry mail client is web based. After searching, I ran into LogicMail, 100% free and open source e-mail client for your phone with all the bells and whistels.

sourceforge.net/projects/logicmail LogicMail Sourceforge Page

OperaMini is a full web browser for your phone, inspired by the already proven Opera Browser I have noticed most on board browsers coming with opera like features; however, they will never pass opera’s ever expanding technology. OperaMini has been the leader for mobile browsing since its debut.

opera.com/mini OperaMini website

If you are not already familiar with the QuickTImeAlternative, then you will need to download and install this first. The QTA (Quick Time Alternative), is a slightly smaller, more efficient multimedia player replacement for QuickTime. For those of you who have not used it, it will load quicker, and use fewer resources. You can download the QuickTimeAlternative from their website.

After you have downloaded and installed the QuickTimeAlternative on your machine, go to Apple’s website and download iTunes, if you have not already. After downloading, you will need to unpack the content’s with archive software. You can use 7zip for this (or WinRAR). I recommend getting 7-zip if you do not already have it, you can download 7zip (or WinRAR), either from the 7zip website, or right here if you trust it (Google ‘7-zip’ if not).

After unpacking the content’s of the iTunes download, you will see a list of installers (*.msi’s). Delete the installer called ‘QuickTime.msi’. You can also delete Bonjour.msi, as this is not needed either. Now, you should be able to open the iTunes installer, ‘iTunes.msi’, but it will give you an error because QuickTime was not found or installed. Therefore, you can go to the command prompt, go to the directory you extracted the folders, and type ‘msiexec.exe /i iTunes.msi /quiet’. This will run the installer in windows installer in the background.

You now have iTunes installed and spared your system from coming in contact with QuickTime. You can use this practice with other applications compiled with multiple software; however, you will have to do some investigating and find out just why the other software was included, and how to make everything work with out it.

Thanks,
Shane Rice

How to Install Hewlett Packard Printer Scanner Copier (HP PSC) Drivers with out The Software

This article is very short, and very simple, and explains how to set-up your Hewlett Packard printer / scanner / copier (or any related device) w/o installing the software included in the installation package. This is guaranteed to work with the HP PSC 1210, which is one of the devices presented with out a driver only download, or a driver only install.

Before connecting your hardware, and installing any of your drier packages!

Simply download the driver and software package provided by your manufacture, this is usually a .exe or .msi, but sometimes it is a .zip that contains one of these files types. Then, if you do not have an archive program, download 7zip (or WinRAR), either from the 7zip website, or right here if you trust it (Google ‘7-zip’ if not).

After installing 7zip (no options to configure), right click on the driver package you downloaded from your printer or scanner manufacture, go to the 7-zip menu, and click and go to the ‘extract to file.exe\’ option. This will unpack the contents of the executable or installer package you downloaded.

In here will be the drivers, plus the software that you do not want to install. Now, you want to connect your hardware to your computer and power it on. Windows will come up with the found new hardware dialog, click do not search for drivers online (XP), then click install from specified location. Navigate to the location you unpacked the files to with 7-zip, you should be able to pres ok on this directory, and it should search it for the necessary drivers. If not, try selecting different directories within the folder that was created with 7-zip archive.

After you select ok and press next, it should begin to copy the drivers over to the system folder. This is where you might notice it will trigger the software package, and ask you to install it. You should just be able to click cancel on the software, if it already installed the driver.

If it brings you straight to the software installation, (very rare) or your scanner does not work, you must look through the different installer packages, see which ones launch software, and which ones launch driver installations, or delete the software package setup.exe files, or installer.msi files within the extracted directory, then proceed to install the drivers again.

In the case of the HP PSC 1210 all-in-one, after extracting the executable, you can double click on aiodrv.msi, the driver installer, to install the drivers (since aiosw.msi is the software installer) for the scanner, but only after you have copied the drivers over successfully for the printer. The scanner requires an installer of some kind, because it will require scanning software installed behind it, not just a driver.

At this point you should be good to print, scan, or copy (which does not require a computer anyway) just fine, with out the software on your computer. Herbie Hancock - ‘Stitched Up’

I have never heard this song, from one of my fav. artist, John Mayer, and in this song, he is singing a song, accompanied with music by Herbie Hancock. You know the vocals are talented, and the jazz beat and piano in the background just rock the house. This is in my top 10 of John Mayer favorites now.
